Blooming Wild Cherry

Right now all of the "greenness" of our forest is punctuated by wild Cherry Trees. Spread by bird droppings, these trees are quite common along the roadways. They are never more noticeable than in the Spring, when their branches are cloaked in a sea of white blossoms. I image they are also full of busy pollinators, who will assure another crop of cherries this Summer. Then the gorging birds will spread some more seeds throughout the forest floor, starting the cycle over once again.

Wild Cherry Trees

The wild cherry trees that are hidden among the Douglas fir on our property  peaked with color this past week before the hard frost arrived. They just glow in the Fall sunshine. Their leaves are such a pretty blend of yellow, orange, and red-orange. After a poor display the last two years, late September's heavy rainfall  gifted the trees with much needed moisture. This in turn lead to a much improved Fall color display. It is also interesting that the cherries are at peak display now because the large leaf maples leaves turned yellow a few weeks ago. They have now dropped all of their leaves and the maple trees are bare.

White in a Green World

As the outdoor world turns more green every day, the "wild" cherry trees have come into full bloom. They are such a pretty splash of clean white against the intense palate of green.
